"At lower levels of play – real lower levels – you should incorporate games.

The kind of games you played in the back yard:

“Pickle”
“Wiffle Ball”
“Indian Ball”
“500”

The point of these games is not of winning or losing, but of building skills: chasing a ball down on the run, catching a ball on the run, hand-eye coordination with the bat, just running in general.

You’re teaching all aspects of the sport, but you’re not putting them in an environment where it’s “win, or you fail.” Rather, it’s “play, and have fun.”
